Gilbert's free Concert in the Park takes place Thursday, October 15, at Water Tower Plaza from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, according to Discover Gilbert's event listing. The October series features Valley bands playing a mix of genres. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

For those planning a longer night out, the Heritage District's independent restaurants line Gilbert Road between Elliot and Guadalupe. The area, the town's old railroad-centered business district, offers dinner options beyond the SanTan Village area.

Two other Thursday events are aimed at library audiences. Perry Library's recurring Cube Club meets at 5:30 PM for ages 10 through 17, with no ticket required. At 6:30 PM, Southeast Regional Library hosts a Phoenix Art Museum discussion on science and art for adults 18 and older. That event requires a ticket, so interested residents should check availability first.

On Friday, October 16, Discover Gilbert lists a free Moonlit Movie Night with a "Hocus Pocus" theme, vendors and activities. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets and consult the listing for the venue and start time. Earlier in the day, Southeast Regional Library offers an English and Spanish storytime at 10:15 AM for all ages, and a ticket is required. At 10:30 AM, Perry Library's Let's Talk ESL Conversation Group meets for adults 18 and older, with no ticket needed.

Saturday, October 17, brings Boo Bash at Perry Library, an all-ages family event starting at 10 AM with crafts, free play and drop-in activities. No ticket is required. That evening at 7 PM, Gilbert High School, part of Gilbert Public Schools, the district covering most of Gilbert, lists a fundraising dinner in its cafeteria. The event supports the school band's Rome trip, and the school calendar has attendance details and pricing.

In business news, Go Gilbert reports that Mike Myers, Tom Misitano and Daniel Patiño, the original co-founder and chef of Salad and Go, have acquired the brand's North American intellectual property and operating rights. They plan to reopen several Arizona locations. The post names no Gilbert address or reopening date, though the chain began in Gilbert.

Go Gilbert also reports that a Yard House is planned for SanTan Crossing, near SanTan Village Parkway and Williams Field Road in the broader SanTan Village shopping area. No opening date has been announced.

On housing costs, at this week's reported average mortgage rate of 7.40%, a $579,000 Gilbert home with 20% down would carry monthly principal and interest payments of about $3,207.

Beyond Gilbert, ASU women's volleyball hosts Arizona on Thursday, October 15, at 7 PM at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe.
